Like Spike Lee to loss of life, but we would not be throwing that a lot shade if we explained that in some cases the significant homie’s movies are about as excellent as his beloved Knicks in the playoffs.

But if studies from the 2018 Cannes Movie Pageant are precise, Lee’s bought a winner in BlacKkKlansman, which not only obtained a 10-minute standing ovation when it screened, but on Saturday, it gained the Grand Prix, a single of the festival’s best awards, second only to the Palme d’Or, which Lee infamously dropped out on in 1989 for his masterwork, Do the Proper Issue.

BlacKkKlansman, established in the 1970s, stars John David Washington as Ron Stallworth, a black detective who launches an undercover investigation of the Ku Klux Klan with Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver). Topher Grace plays David Duke, the KKK’s grand wizard. Jordan Peele co-provides with Lee.

BlacKkKlansman is established to fall on Aug. 10, the just one-yr anniversary of the deadly Charlottesville, Va., white nationalist rally.
